The wedding certificate given by the ZAGS during the wedding day, has to be legalized and translated for to be transcripted also in your native country.

Here we will talk about the procedure required for the Italian citizens. For other countries can be different.

This procedure is also required for to get the visa from the embassy.

1 You must bring the wedding certificate to the RAGZ of your city.

Donetsk RAGZ (close to the ZUM)

At the RAGZ you will be asked to fill out some document and then to pay (through bank which is not inside the RAGZ, you can find one at the ZUM)

Once you have done all this they will put a stamp on your wedding certificate.

Required time: few hours.

When to come: in the morning.

Price: about 50 Hryvnia

2

Now go to Kiev and bring the certificate to the Consular Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs for to the legalization.

The department is different from the one where you brought the Nulla osta.
This time it is located in Рыльский пер. Ryl’skiy per., next to the Cathedral of Saint Sofia.

Entrance of the department.

In this office you need once again to fill out different documents and to pay in the same way as before. There is a bank next to the department.

In general there are many people, but not all them are there for the same thing. Ask before to make the queue.

This office work expecially for Italy and some other countries ask for to know to which office to go.

Required time: you have your certificate back the same day in the afternoon.

Timetable: bring the certificate from 9 to 12 and get it back from 16 to 17.

Prezzo: about 50 Hryvnia

3 Once your certificate is ready, you can bring it for the translation. This operation has to be done by a translator accreditated by the Italian Embassy. Ask the list of them directly at the embassy (you can send an email).

Required time: Depend on the translator, in general about 1 day.

Price: 50 Hryvnia

In the next post we will talk about the transcription of the wedding in Italy and how to get the visa from the Italian embassy.

Once you have your all your documents ready, go to the ZAGS for to chose the date of your wedding.

The ZAGS is the one of the area where the Ukrainian citizen lives.

This is the building of the Donetsk’s ZAGS

You need to have with you the following documents:

Italian citizen

- Nulla osta
- Original passport
- Translated and legalized copy of the passport
(if required, but anyway better to have it)

Ukrainian citizen

- National passport. (not the one for abroad)

Once at the ZAGS you will be asked to fill out these modules:

1 The module for the payment of the ZAGS (80 Kop.) less than 10 cents of Euro.
(after you will have to pay much more for the ceremony)

2 The module for to require the wedding celebration. Here you need to specify you personal data.

The second module must be filled out in Ukrainian Cyrillic by both.
If you can’t write in Cyrillic than there is some different procedure which require the presence of the notarius. The easiest way is to ask your Ukrainian fiance to help you with it.

Once you have filled our both forms, you need to go to pay the ZAGS and with the recive of the payment come back to the ZAGS assistant and give back your wedding appliance.

The payment has to be done by bank.

You will have to come again to the ZAGS few days before the wedding (they will say exactly when) for to give the confirmation. Both the applicants are required to be there. (this is because you need to show once again your passport)

In this occasion you will have also to pay for the ceremony.
The price of it is: 400 Hryvnia (at least this is in Donetsk) about 40 euro.

Wedding procedures:

1 For the list of documents given by the Italian Embassy in Kiev visit: (in Italian)

Donetsk, the capital of the Donbass oblast’, is a large industrial city with more than 1 million of inhabitant and a very short history: the city was founded less than 2 centuries ago.

For all these reason you will not find it among the main places to visit if you travel to Ukraine for leisure unless you are a football fanatic.
Donetsk is the hometown of the 2009 UEFA cup winner: Shakhtar. In the same time it will be also one of the main cities during the Euro championship 2012.
This is also the hometown of the world famous pole vault Olympic record men Sergey Bubka.

Shakhtar stadium, notice the Bubka’s monument.

One of the thing you will notice immediately coming by plane are the artificial hills result of all the open mines which are in this area.

In the main square, plosha Lenin, you will not miss to see the traditional statue of Lenin, which was almost in every city during the Soviet Union and here it is still at its place.

Despite the fact to be an industrial city (with all the consequences coming from this) there are some very nice green areas where it is pleasant to walk and have rest.

Located the city center, parallel to plosha Lenin and Artema street, Pushking boulevard is a beautiful place where to walk and have rest in the day or even better during the evening.

Another beautiful park is located a bit more far. For to go there, it is better to take any trolley that goes in the direction of the railway station.

This park is characterized by its particular buildings
Here you will find statues with the shape of zodiac signs or fairly tales personages and very particular benches where to sit.
On Saturday you will see different just married couples coming to make photos in this place.

In the opposite direction, not far from the beginning of Pushkin boulevard, there is probable the main area where to spend the free time.

This park is located along a lake crossed by a pedestrian bridge.

entrance of the park

the bridge

In this place there is an entertainment area where the main attraction is a small roller coaster.
Nice is the old ferries wheel which give the possibility to see a panoramic view of the city. (anyway is it rather old and so maybe not very safe).

One of the best thing is to rent a boat or a catamaran and spend 1 hour of peace in the lake.

view of the bridge (photo taken from the boat)

All these places are very beautiful to visit only at the condition that you are in Donetsk non in Winter, late Autumn or the beginning of Spring.

During this time you will probable see a totally different environment. The temperature can fall in winter at -20 C (not in the night but during the day!) and very seldom is +0 degrees.

this iced field is the lake in winter

this is Pushkin bul. in the evening

a street in the evening (winter)

Anyway Donetsk is, as we said already, a large city and for this reason don’t miss places, such as cinemas, trade – leisure centers, theaters, restaurants and so on where you can have fun without dieing for the cold.

trade center Zolotoe Kolzo

A particular place worthy of a visit is the local planetarium, considered to be the main one in Ukraine and more in general in the region.

planetarium

Before to close this guide, we remember that in Donetsk there is still no metro even if exist for already many years a project for to build one.

Where to stay in Donetsk

In the city there are many hotels, among all them the Donbass Palace, located right next the main square and Pushkin boulevard is the most famouse.
This is hotel is own by the same owner of the football team Shakhtar which is also the richest man of Ukraine: Rinat Akhmetov.Another hotel with a good location is the Central hotel (Artema ul. not far from Lenin square).
If you prefer you can try to find a flat for rent, it is not as easy as in Kiev or in Lviv but you can try to give a look at:
http://en.ukrlandia.com.ua/flats-ukraine

How to arrive in Donetsk

You can get there by plane using Austrian, Lufthansa or Turkish airline. (If you come from Russia there also other flights).
Sometimes it is cheaper to fly to Kiev and then from there take the Donbassaero / Aerosvit to Donetsk.

If you are already in Kiev or in another Ukrainian city you can take the train. (the same if you are in Russia or Bielorussia)

These are not all the possibilities but just some of the most convinient. There is also a train coming from Berlin that goes to Donetsk but maybe it is not the easiest way to get there unless you like to travel in train for days.

It is not a big airport, just one terminal divided in 2 floors: 1 floor: Arrivals and Domestic departures. 2 floor: International Departure. At the first floor you can find several small shops, ticket offices (Donbassaero office) and different places where to sit and wait. For the national departures, go to the left of the hall, there you will find the check in counters and then the place where to pass the security control. National arrivals are in the right part of the hall and international arrivals are in the middle of the hall. On the left and right side of the hall you will be able to find the stairs which will led you to the second floor (international departures). On the second floor, some small shops and the office of these air companies: Lufthansa, Austrian, Turkish airlines and Utair. On the same floor there are 2 waiting rooms, one before customs control and another one (see the photo) after the check in and all other controls.

In this waiting room you can find a duty free shop and a snack bar.

Once inside the terminal go directly to the second floor (International Departures).
Here you will find a large room where you can sit, buy some snack or ask information to your air company (at this floor there are the offices of Lufthansa, Austrian, Utair and Turkish airline; the other ones are on the first floor)
Here you can also weight your bag or if you need fill down a custom declaration, next to the balance you can find several customs declaration forms.

When will come the check in time, you will see the your flight number appear over the white door at the top of the room. (again next to the balance)

Cross the door and chose if to pass through the red or green corridor. If you don’t have anything to declare chose the green corridor.

Once passed the customs control, you can reach the check in counters.
Here they will issue you the boarding card, weight your luggage but they will not take it, you have to give your luggage later.

Now go on and pass the security check. After it you can finally get rid of your luggage giving it to the a man waiting for them. (about luggage, here is everything done by hand)

Finally you have to pass the passport control and reach the waiting room.

At the end of the waiting room, there also a duty free shop and some coffee bar.

(photo taken from the waiting room, after having passed the check in and all the other controls, here you can see how it looks like the “control-check in area”; these two boxes are the 2 passport control points seen from their back)

When will be the boarding time, a woman will pass through the waiting room calling for the flight.
Follow her and she will bring you and all other passengers downstairs where a bus will bring you to the plane.

Once you get out of the plane, you will find a bus waiting for you; this bus will bring you to the entrance for international arrivals.

You will arrive in a room (much smaller than the one in Kyiv Boryspil) where you have to pass the passport control.
If you don’t have already the Immigration card, you can find a copy of it in this room, in general they are on the left, next to the wall.

Once you have passed the passport control, you have to turn on the left and well you should find your bag there, either on the floor or still on the track.
(Here there is not baggage claim as in Boryspil, everything is done by hand).

Finally with your bag, you have to pass the customs control and then passing through a door you will find yourself at the first floor (the hall) of the airport; here you will see people waiting for their dears and several taxi drivers anxious to bring you where you wish. Few step more and you will be outside of the terminal.
