You need to have with you the following documents:

Once you have filled our both forms, you need to go to pay the ZAGS and with the recive of the payment come back to the ZAGS assistant and give back your wedding appliance.

The payment has to be done by bank.

You will have to come again to the ZAGS few days before the wedding (they will say exactly when)  for to give the confirmation. Both the applicants are required to be there. (this is because you need to show once again your passport)

In this occasion you will have also to pay for the ceremony.
The price of it is: 400 Hryvnia (at least this is in Donetsk) about 40 euro.

Guide to Donetsk

Donetsk, the capital of the Donbass oblast’, is a large industrial city with more than 1 million of inhabitant and a very short history: the city was founded less than 2 centuries ago.

For all these reason you will not find it among the main places to visit if you travel to Ukraine for leisure unless you are a football fanatic.
Donetsk is the hometown of the 2009 UEFA cup winner: Shakhtar. In the same time it will be also one of the main cities during the Euro championship 2012.
This is also the hometown of the world famous pole vault Olympic record men Sergey Bubka.

Stadium ShakhtarShakhtar stadium, notice the Bubka’s monument.

One of the thing you will notice immediately coming by plane are the artificial hills result of all the open mines which are in this area.

Donetsk from the plane

In the main square, plosha Lenin, you will not miss to see the traditional statue of Lenin, which was almost in every city during the Soviet Union and here it is still at its place.

Lenin square, Donetsk

Despite the fact to be an industrial city (with all the consequences coming from this) there are some very nice green areas where it is pleasant to walk and have rest.

Located the city center, parallel to plosha Lenin and Artema street, Pushking boulevard is a beautiful place where to walk and have rest in the day or even better during the evening.

Pushkin bul.

Another beautiful park is located a bit more far. For to go there, it is better to take any trolley that goes in the direction of the railway station.

This park is characterized by its particular buildings
Here you will find statues with the shape of zodiac signs or fairly tales personages and very particular benches where to sit.
On Saturday you will see different just married couples coming to make photos in this place.

In the opposite direction, not far from the beginning of Pushkin boulevard, there is probable the main area where to spend the free time.

This park is located along a lake crossed by a pedestrian bridge.

In this place there is an entertainment area where the main attraction is a small roller coaster.
Nice is the old ferries wheel which give the possibility to see a panoramic view of the city. (anyway is it rather old and so maybe not very safe).

One of the best thing is to rent a boat or a catamaran and spend 1 hour of peace in the lake.

All these places are very beautiful to visit only at the condition that you are in Donetsk non in Winter, late Autumn or the beginning of Spring.

During this time you will probable see a totally different environment. The temperature can fall in winter at -20 C (not in the night but during the day!) and very seldom is +0 degrees.

Anyway Donetsk is, as we said already, a large city and for this reason don’t miss places, such as cinemas, trade – leisure centers, theaters, restaurants and so on where you can have fun without dieing for the cold.

A particular place worthy of a visit is the local planetarium, considered to be the main one in Ukraine and more in general in the region.

Before to close this guide, we remember that in Donetsk there is still no metro even if exist for already many years a project for to build one.

Where to stay in Donetsk

In the city there are many hotels, among all them the Donbass Palace, located right next the main square and Pushkin boulevard is the most famouse.
This is hotel is own by the same owner of the football team Shakhtar which is also the richest man of Ukraine: Rinat Akhmetov.Another hotel with a good location is the Central hotel (Artema ul. not far from Lenin square).
If you prefer you can try to find a flat for rent, it is not as easy as in Kiev or in Lviv but you can try to give a look at:
http://en.ukrlandia.com.ua/flats-ukraine

How to arrive in Donetsk

You can get there by plane using Austrian, Lufthansa or Turkish airline. (If you come from Russia there also other flights).
Sometimes it is cheaper to fly to Kiev and then from there take the Donbassaero / Aerosvit to Donetsk.

If you are already in Kiev or in another Ukrainian city you can take the train. (the same if you are in Russia or Bielorussia)

These are not all the possibilities but just some of the most convinient. There is also a train coming from Berlin that goes to Donetsk but maybe it is not the easiest way to get there unless you like to travel in train for days.

How to: iphone in Ukraine

In this article we try to give some advice for people who want to use their iphone in Ukraine.

Ukrianian and Russian layout

First thing you may want to do is to add the Ukrainian / Russian layout to your iphone. In this way you can send Cyrillic SMS.

Follow this steps:

1 Go inside “Settings” and select “General” then “Keyboard”
2 Inside “Keyboard” select “International Keyboards”
3 Here turn ON Russian and Ukrainian
4 Press the Home button and you are done.

Now you will be able to switch between all layouts when you type some text by clicking on the small “Sphere button” that you can find next to the one for to switch to numbers.

Phone and the net

The best thing you can do, as always, is to remove your national sim card and to use a local one, for our point of view life:) offers the best tariff, see post.

Of course you can switch if your national provider doesn’t give some restriction in the use of your iphone.

We tried life:) on our iphone and it works without any problem. Both phone and net.

Now lets see the ways for to connect to the net.

Wireless connection

With the wireless you can try to find some hot spot in the main public places such as main squares, bar – restaurants, airports, trade centers, etc
Many hotels and some flats for rent offer the same service.

Cellular connection, 3G, EDGE, GPRS

If you were able to use a life:) sim card try this:

life:) internet

You can surf for a max of 100, 350, 1000MB every month by paying these tariffs:

1GB at 90 Hryvnia
350MB at 60 Hryvnia
100MB at 30 Hryvnia

One fast way for to activate it:

Send a SMS with this text 1000 ON to the number 125
and then follow the instructions.

At the place of 1000 you can put 350 or 100 as you prefer.

For to deactivate it:
Send an identical SMS to the same number with OFF at the place of ON.

for to know more about this service visit:
http://www.life.com.ua/index.php?area=lifebox&lng=en&page=15-33

Important

For to use it with your Iphone you should write in the APN setting: INTERNET
And to check how many MB left, dial *111#

How to: Recharge an Ukrainian mobile phone

Once in Ukraine, the best way is to buy a local sim card for you mobile phone, in this way you can really save a lot of money for to call inside and outside the country.

There is no need to make an account for to use such sim cards, the best way is to take a rechargeable card.

Time to time you will have to refill your credit and so buy a recharge.
For to do so, you can buy a scratch card, there are different sizes of recharge from about 10 until 500 UAH.

In general you will need to pay 1 extra Hryvnia, so the recharge of 25 will cost 26 UAH

On the scratch card you will fine a code which you need to put on your phone using this procedure: (this apply to life:) sim card, for other providers follow the instruction you should find on the scratch card)

Dial on your mobile phone: *111*your recharge code# press then call.

For to check how much money you have, dial: *111#

Why we speak about life:) and not about other providers, for the simple reason that for a foreigner it gives the best tariffs for to call abroad.

See the post about how to call for 1,20 UAH to your home country from Ukraine

Another way for to recharge is to do it directly from one of the many machines you can find in the main public places as stations, airports, main streets etc…

When you recharge, 1 or 2 Hryvnia will be taken by the provider.

How to: Luggage deposit at the Kiev railway station

At the Kiev railway station, as in the all the main stations, it is possible to find a luggage deposit.

It is located underground and it is possible to get there from the underpass close to the station entrance (old side). See the photo.

From here you will get inside a long corridor with several “windows” where you can give your luggage and then take it back.
